2012 Be A Santa to a Senior Program - Walgreens & Select Chevy

Be A Santa To A Senior Program Begins November 17th!

Want to make a difference this holiday season?

CASI, local Walgreens and Select Chevy locations want YOU to be Santa and friend to a local senior during the holidays when you participate in the “Be a Santa to a Senior” gift program.

How can you be a Santa to a Senior?

Beginning November 17th go to CASI's website and get the list of the 24 participating Walgreens stores and Select Chevy Dealers. Stop in a selected location, take a name off the Senior Santa tree, purchase a gift(s) from the senior wish list, and return unwrapped gifts. It’s that simple. Last year over 2,000 seniors received gifts. This holiday season the need to help seniors has drastically grown to 3,000 people. Our community needs your generosity to brighten our seniors’ holidays.

The “Be A Santa to Senior” program is proudly sponsored by CASI, Home Instead, Walgreens and your Select Chevy Dealers. For more information, please call: 563-386-7477.

Hat Bash History

The Holiday Hat Bash was inspired by a letter sent to CASI from Lenora, an 88-year old senior living alone, that received a gift at Christmas time from the Be a Santa to a Senior Program. Little did she know that her letter of thanks would also help hundreds of other seniors receive a gift. The letter, which was passed around during a board meeting at CASI, prompted a call to Steve Habenicht, owner of Home Instead Senior Care, the organization that coordinates the Be a Santa to a Senior program. When asked "does every senior receive a gift if his or her name tag is on a tree?" Steve replied "No, about 200 names weren't taken last year, and we didn't have enough funding to buy them gifts." So, we created the Holiday Hat Bash, a fundraiser that supplements funding to the Be a Santa to a Senior program. The third annual Hat Bash took place November 17, 2011 at CASI. Other people acted as Santa’s to area seniors by visiting Quad-Cities Walgreens stores in November and December. They picked a name tag from the Be a Santa to a Senior Christmas tree and bought gifts for that person. They wanted to help make sure that every senior received a gift! Christmas isn't just for children; it's for all people who are truly children at heart! Thank you, Lenora, for reminding us that everyone wants to be remembered, especially during the holidays!
